The Prince George Spruce Kings picked up three out of a possible six points during a three-game road trip.

Friday

Cranbrook Bucks 6 PG Spruce Kings 2

  • Bucks forward Dane Dowiak recorded a five-point night with three goals and two assists.
  • Mason Waite and Christian Buono lit the lamp in defeat for PG
  • Bucks outshot the Spruce Kings 27-21

Saturday

PG Spruce Kings 2 Cranbrook Bucks 1

  • PG outshot Cranbrook 39-14 overall
  • Corey Cunningham and Andrew Seaman scored for the Spruce Kings in the first period
  • Aaron Trotter picked up the win in goal

Sunday

Trail Smoke Eaters 2 PG Spruce Kings 1 (Shootout)

  • Zack Feaver opened the scoring for Trail at 19:35 of the first period along with the shootout winner
  • Rowan Miller notched his third of the preseason for PG late in the middle period
  • Spruce Kings blueliner Tanner Main left the game in the third period with a leg injury

PG is 4-2-0-1 during exhibition play with their final tuneup slated for Saturday in Merritt against the Centennials.

Under 18 AA Hockey

It was a 1-2 start for the North Central U-18 AA Bobcats as they kicked off their regular season in Prince George over the weekend.

Saturday

Bobcats 5 Thompson Blazers 1 (Morning game)

  • Max Sanford of Williams Lake led North Central with a pair of goals in the victory
  • Daniel Sturgeon picked up the win in net for the Bobcats

North Zone Kings (Salmon Arm/Vernon) 8 Bobcats 6 (Afternoon)

  • Richard Burden, Trey Schober and Kyle Wheeler all had two goals apiece for the Kings who battled back from deficits of 4-1 and 6-4
  • Riley Bassett took the loss in net for the Bobcats

Sunday

North East Trackers 5 Bobcats 1

  • Colby Busche lit the lamp twice for the Trackers
  • Daniel Sturgeon made 47 saves on 52 shots for the Bobcats
  • North Central was outshot 52-11 overall by North East

Under 18 Female Midget AAA Exhibition

Northern Capitals 2 Thompson Okanagan Lakers 1 (Friday)

  • Cricket Colebank and Brooklyn Hutchings scored for the Caps

Northern Capitals 2 Thompson Okanagan Lakers 2 (Saturday)

  • Hutchings and Pyper Alexander lit the lamp for the Capitals

Thompson Okanagan Lakers 3 Northern Capitals 1 (Sunday)

  • Jessica Engelbrecht led the way offensively for the Lakers with two goals
  • Hutchings scored her third of the weekend in defeat for the Caps

The Capitals are 2-4-2 this preseason.

NFL

Abbotsford’s Chase Claypool found the end zone two more times to help the Pittsburgh Steelers to a 36-10 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Steelers move to 9-0 on the season.

The Seattle Seahawks have now dropped three of their last four after losing a 23-16 decision to the LA Rams on Sunday.

Both the Rams and Seahawks are in a three-way tie for first place in the NFC West along with the Arizona Cardinals with identical 6-3 records.

In Monday night football, the Chicago Bears (5-4) welcome Dalvin Cook and the Minnesota Vikings (3-5).

The Masters

Dustin Johnson exercised some demons and claimed The Masters from Augusta National.

He shot a 4-under 68 in Sunday’s final round to claim his first Green Jacket.

Overall, he finished 20-under par, a Masters record for the lowest 72-hole score in tournament history.

48 building permits issued in September

The City of Prince George had a strong September for building permit values.According to a report being presented to City Council at tomorrow's (Monday) meeting, the City issued 48 building permits last month, worth a combined $8.9 million. 

BMI Group acquires former Mackenzie Paper Mill

The BMI Group has acquired the former Mackenzie Paper Mill. The 885-acre property, which includes about 345,000 square feet of industrial buildings and direct rail access, will be re-established as Willmarck Mackenzie.

Spruce Kings come out on top in high scoring tilt with Clippers

967 fans at Kopar Memorial Arena were treated to a high-scoring affair last night (Saturday) as the Prince George Spruce Kings picked up a 7-5 win over the Nanaimo Clippers. 

Cougars score six in third period to stun Tri-City

The Prince George Cougars scored in bunches in a 9-3 win over the Tri-City Americans last night. (Saturday)The Cougars opened the game with a quick burst of three goals in the first six minutes of the game.
