Successful first day for Community Christmas fundraiser

Over $14,000 was raised on the first day of the 10th annual Community Christmas Campaign for the St.Vincent De Paul Society.

For the last nine years, Vista Radio has teamed up with St.Vincent De Paul to raise funds for the society, however in light of the pandemic, it was especially important this year.

“A lot of people who supported us for many years are now not working or had to cut back,” explained Bernie Goold, President of the Board of St.Vincent De Paul.

The Society works tirelessly to give back to the community throughout the year, providing food, clothing and resources for those in need.

“We also have a Thrift Store that supports our drop-in centre in normal times but COVID made a change to that as well with it being closed down for five months,” added Goold.

With the funding, Goold is hoping the Society can make some of its food packages a little more appetizing with cookies and Mandarin oranges this year.

Donations are being accepted tomorrow (Thursday) at the Vista Radio studios, 2977 Ferry Ave, but due to COVID-19, online cash donations to mypgnow.com are encouraged.

Last year the campaign raised over 15-grand in cash plus thousands of dollars worth of donations.
