Zoning application required for medical marihuana facilities

Those wanting to set up a medical marihuana facility in Prince George will be going through an extra step.

City Council has approved bylaw changes that will allow medical marihuana facilities in the city but they would have to go through a rezoning application.

City Planner Mandy Stanker says this is for facilities that already have their license through Health Canada.

“They need a business license, building permits and then we need to do a zoning check.”

Stanker says any property wanting to grow medical marihuana would have to be 35 acres in size and one kilometre from any residential zone.

She says this would include the Boundary Road area, the BCR site and the Danson Industrial Park.
