Hockey:

–Canada crushed Germany 16-2 in its opening preliminary round match at the World Junior Hockey Championship in Edmonton. Taylor Gauthier of the PG Cougars is the third goalie on the Canadian team and did not dress. Canada will play Slovakia in its second game today (Sunday 3:00 PM PT).

–The Czech Republic lost its first game at the World Junior Tournament 7-1 to Sweden. Forward Filip Koffer of the Prince George Cougars is part of the Czech Republic team that will play Russia tonight (6:30).

–The Toronto Raptors are 0-2 after a 119-114 loss to the San Antonio Spurs. The Raptors visit Philadelphia on Tuesday.
