–Canada crushed Germany 16-2 in its opening preliminary round match at the World Junior Hockey Championship in Edmonton. Taylor Gauthier of the PG Cougars is the third goalie on the Canadian team and did not dress. Canada will play Slovakia in its second game today (Sunday 3:00 PM PT).
Canada had 19 first-round draft picks in its lineup. Germany had 14 skaters — period. But after limited opportunities for pre-tournament tune-ups, Canada won’t apologize for beating up on a lesser opponent.
