Full refunds still in place at Nechako Bottle Depot

The Nechako Bottle Depot is offering customers a full refund for their beer bottles and cans in Prince George.

This is in response to the PG Return it and Recycling Centre stating they have rolled back the price on these items after the six-month Beer Pilot Program came to an end.

Nechako Bottle Depot Owner, Darcy Buryn explained to MyPGNow.com why they are still able to offer the full deposit refund.

“We have contracts with both Encorp Pacific and the Beer Recycling Council that’s why we are allowed to offer full refunds for both non-beer and beer containers.”

“A lot of the other depots in the province don’t have agreements with the Beer Recycling Council so that’s why they don’t offer full refunds on beer containers.”

Buryn added the Beer Recycling Program consistently has a pretty healthy intake.

“The Beer Recycling Program across the province has a very high recovery rate in the 90% range of all beer containers get recovered – the pilot program only covered beer cans it didn’t cover beer bottles.”

“The very pilot program that Encorp Pacific put on didn’t impact our business too much, now it is a return to the status quo and we don’t really expect a big spike in business just a return to our normal activity.”

The Nechako location continues to see a steady stream of traffic even during the pandemic.

“We have seen sort of through the COVID and our retail return windows have been quite busy. We were busy before the pandemic and the pilot program so we think we will sort stay as it was,” added Buryn.
