New “pick and pay” model will offer flexibility for cable TV

Starting in March of 2016 Canadians everywhere will have access to a $25 a month basic cable television service.

They will also have the chance to choose other options.

Here’s CRTC Chair Jean Pierre Blais:

“Canadians will be able to build on the entry level service by buying the individual channels they want, either on a pick and pay basis or through small, reasonably priced bundles”

Netflix and other streaming services could also be affected, possibly with can-con quotas of their own.

The CRTC has also introduced a code of conduct for the industry in order to keep independant broadcasters afloat.
