The Birchwood Veterinary Clinic in Prince George is planning to open its doors, at 1745 Victoria Street, to its four-legged patients on June 1st.

Specializing in companion animals like dogs and cats, the clinic will be run by Prince George couple, Ben and Mel Bauman.

“Just being able to care for animals for their whole life has really inspired Ben to open this clinic,” said Practice Manager, Mel Bauman.

The clinic will be offering a number of services including vaccinations, dental care, spay/neuter surgeries and annual wellness checkups.

At this point, Ben is the only Vet scheduled to work at the practice, but they are hoping to employ two full-time vets and one part-time vet in the coming years.

“We can’t say what the next veterinarian will specialize in but it will only be for small animals as the facility is only built for small animals,” explained Mel.

Mel says they hope to open up the clinic a little sooner but given the impacts of the pandemic, it is unlikely.

“We are just really excited to do our part to help alleviate some of the stress on veterinarians and pet owners because we know how hard it is right now,” Mel added.
