The cold weather in Prince George has led to a few snags when it comes to getting kids to class within School District 57.

Yesterday (Monday), a few buses were unable to start while a couple of other routes were slightly behind schedule with temperatures dipping into the minus 30’s during the morning commute.
Assistant Superintendent, Kap Manhas told MyPGNow.com the challenges mother nature presents in the winter is all part of living in the north.
“Being flexible and weather when it comes to transportation is something we all have to do and is something we manage to do every single day. We have over 35-hundred bus riders and our buses run and for the most part, they are on time and we have the odd disruption but, for the most part, the buses do a great job.”
“We make it work because we have done it every day for a long period of time in Prince George.”
Manhas added the school board always has a Plan B when communicating with its provider Diversified Transportation.
“If there is a bus that can’t run or hasn’t started we absolutely look at picking up kids with alternate buses and spare buses from Diversified. Our number one priority is getting the kids to school.”
He mentioned there is often very little worry from the school board when the weather gets chilly.
“With our schools and parents, we know that roads are icy and they can often get cold and buses can be late here and there. While those things are common on almost on a daily basis on some runs schools are well-equipped to handle the issue if kids are coming in late.”
Manhas reminded parents to check the My School Bus Monitor website to see if their selected route is running on time.
