Non-profits in Prince George are receiving some much-needed funds from B.C.’s Community Gaming Grants program.
“Our government is committed to supporting local organizations involved in a wide variety of activities that contribute to building vibrant, healthy communities,” said Josie Osborne, Minister of Municipal Affairs.
“This funding ensures community organizations can continue to provide programming to enhance public safety through emergency programs like search and rescue, and to steward and preserve our ecosystems for generations to come.”
Some of the local organizations who received funding include:
* Prince George Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society: $26,000
* Prince George Regional Highway Rescue Society: $100,000
* Prince George Search and Rescue Society: $100,000
* Prince George Humane Society: $80,000
* Prince George Crime Stoppers Association: $6,750
REAPS Executive Director, Terri McClymont told MyPGNow.com, the $26,000 that has been allocated will assist community outreach.
“It helps to cover costs associated with our school delivery program that we offer in schools free of charge. It helps (the money) cover salary, media releases, advertising, and our community garden when it’s up and running.”
Meanwhile, Angela McLaren with the PG Humane Society noted the 80-grand they received will be invested into its Animal Management program with a focus on First Nations communities in the north.
“Basically, it’s a holistic approach to controlling the overpopulations of dogs in those communities, and part of that program is doing things like spaying and neutering, vaccines, wellness clinics, and humane education programs.”
The Province is providing about $4.8 million to 138 environmental organizations during 2020-21.
In addition, 132 not-for-profit organizations providing emergency and lifesaving services are receiving approximately $6.3 million to deliver their programs provincewide.
