“We’re in a very slow warming trend,”: Environment Canada on PG cold snap

The Extreme Cold Warning that’s been in place for Prince George is on its last legs according to Environment Canada.

It is expected to be lifted by tonight or tomorrow (Thursday) as temperatures slowly warm-up.

Meteorologist, Doug Lundquist spoke with MyPGNow.com.

“It will probably get warmer on the weekend as we get a pulse of moisture and I think we might see some snow as conditions warm up by about Sunday. By about Tuesday, we’ll see daytime highs getting closer to the average of about minus three degrees.”

“It’s going to gradually modify as we are in a very slow warming trend starting about tomorrow.”

Temperatures should reach the single-digits by Sunday with a predicted high of minus eight.

However, Lundquist noted it’s not likely we will re-write the record books during this cold snap.

“There haven’t been any records in the Prince George area but I did look at some surrounding communities and I did see one record set in Mackenzie, but it hasn’t been widespread for the north during this time.”

A high of -24 degrees is predicted for today (Wednesday) with an overnight low of -31.

Meanwhile, record low temperatures have been set in the Cariboo.
