Nearly 90 cases of COVID-19 identified in Prince George in one week

Prince George continues to see a boost in identified COVID-19 cases with 86 people diagnosed with the virus from January 31st to February 6th

This is a substantial 20 more cases than the previous week of January 24th to 30th.

According to the BC Centre for Disease Control, 10 to 15 cases per 100,000 people are being reported in the PG region.

In our neighbouring Nechako and Quesnel Health areas, case counts have remained steady with 8 identified in Nechako and 2 in Quesnel from January 31st to February 6th.

The Peace River North and South health areas, which are Prince George’s neighbours to the East,  saw 27 and 19 cases were identified respectively.

Fort Nelson and the Snow Country – Stikine – Telegraph Creek regions each have a daily rate of over 20, with Snow Country – Stikine-Telegraph Creek being geographically one of the largest local health areas in the North.

Only one school in PG was listed as having potential exposure events during this time, which was listed as Cedars Christian School on February 1st.

Currently, there is only one ongoing healthcare outbreak in PG at Jubilee Lodge after the outbreak at UHNBC’s Internal Medicine Unit that lasted over 6 weeks was declared over yesterday (Wednesday).
