Prince George RCMP arrest suspected vehicle thief

RCMP in Prince George received notice from the Yukon RCMP that a suspect driving a stolen vehicle was en route to PG around 5 am this morning (Friday).

PG RCMP used a spike-belt technique on Highway 97 near the weigh scales in an attempt to stop the driver.

The driver managed to avoid the belt and continued their drive South through the city.

Around 9 am, Police arrested the driver on Highway 97 South near Cottonwood Bridge with the help of Police Dog Services, Air Services and a Crisis Negotiator.

The driver was then taken into custody without incident.

“We are familiar with the suspect and his history with police and that made it a priority for us to apprehend him as quickly as possible,”  stated Cst. Jennifer Cooper of the Prince George RCMP.

The suspect will remain in custody until he can attend court.
