The Pine Centre Mall will have its first major grocery store since Extra Foods left Prince George about 15 years ago.
Save-on-Foods confirmed to MyPGNow.com they are moving out of their Parkwood Place storefront and into the space vacated by Lowe’s.
Lowe’s closed up shop in February of 2020 impacting the employment of 110 workers.
Pine Centre Spokesperson, Jessica Brown spoke with MyPGNow.com.
“We are going to be starting a redevelopment of Lowe’s space. Work is expected to begin in mid-2021 and should wrap up by 2022 and they will take over the Lowe’s space but we are going to be doing a redevelopment where there will be ample parking for guests.”
Brown added another grocery store fulfills a major void within the mall.
“A grocery store has been the number one requested Tennant from Pine Centre and the community alike. A full-time grocery store will enhance the guest experience at Pine Centre and it will also help to accommodate the hospitality and the residential growth surrounding it.”
“Right behind us in that area, you’ve got hotels going up, condos are in development along with another hotel. We’ve got lots of things going on and all of those are going to need our services.”
Pine Centre has seen its fair share of additions in the last few years adding anchor stores like Winners along with a BC Cannabis location and Orange Theory Fitness.
Brown doesn’t believe the eventual arrival of Save-on-Foods will put a dent into that portion of the mall.
“Of course, we are putting Save-on-Foods in the Lowe’s space because it is big enough but that doesn’t take in any distraction from the Winners wing. Leasing has secured some new and exciting tenants for the Winners wing, which we hope to announce later this year.”
