40 year-old sex assault charges return to trial

A Prince George man who fled to the States decades ago on child rape charges has been found and brought back home to stand trial.

In September 1974, Raymond Douglas MacLeod was arrested on sex assault charges of a girl less than 10 years old.

MacLeod, who was 32 years old at the time, was found not guilty, but a new trial was ordered.

He had escaped authorities in Ontario and wasn’t found until recently in California, where a combined effort between PG RCMP and Interpol arrested MacLeod.

They are deporting him back to the city on rape and assault charges that are over 40 years old.

MacLeod is now 72 and arrives in the city Thursday and takes the stand on Friday.
