Vancouver Giants  1  Prince George Cougars  0  (Shootout)

Tyler Brennan made 43 saves in 65 minutes for his first WHL shutout before giving up a goal to Tristen Nielsen in a shootout. Trent Miner blocked 14 shots for the Giants to post his second straight shutout this season. The (1-2-0-1) Cougars play their next game Tuesday night at 7:00 against the (0-3-1) Victoria Royals in Kamloops.

Cougars goalie Tyler Brennan and defenceman Jack Sander are among six players named to the WHL’s B.C. Hub Team of the Week.

The Spruce Kings play Merritt again in their third game of the season Wednesday night at 5:00 in Chilliwack.

NCAA basketball:

A thriller in the NCAA women’s basketball championship game. Stanford edged Arizona 54-53 for its first national title in 29 years.

The NCAA men’s basketball championship game tonight (6:20 PT) has (31-0) Gonzaga vs. (27-2) Baylor. Gonzaga advanced thanks to a buzzer-beater at the end of overtime in a 93-90 victory over UCLA.


NBA:

The (19-30) Toronto Raptors play their 50th game of the season when they host the Washington Wizards tonight.

The Raptors have lost 13 of their last 15 games despite that convincing Friday night 130-77 victory over the Golden State Warriors.

NFL:

The New York Jets have traded QB San Darnold to the Carolina Panthers in return for three draft picks; a sixth-rounder later this month and a second-rounder and fourth-rounder in 2022.
