WHL: (BC Division)

The (1-2-0-1) Prince George Cougars play the (0-3-1) Victoria Royals tonight at 7:00 in Kamloops. The Cougars are coming off Sunday’s 1-0 shootout loss to the Vancouver Giants. Tyler Brennan made 43 saves in 65 minutes for his first WHL shutout before giving up a goal to Tristen Nielsen in a shootout.

In the WHL Monday, Vancouver blanked Kamloops 4-0 as Trent Miner made 30 saves for his third shutout in as many games this season.

Cougars goalie Tyler Brennan and defenceman Jack Sander are among six players named to the WHL’s B.C. Hub Team of the Week.

The Prince George Spruce Kings play the Merritt Centennials Wednesday night at 5:00 in Chilliwack. The Spruce Kings split their first two games of the season, a 4-1 loss to Chilliwack (Saturday) was followed by a 3-2 victory over Merritt (Sunday).

The NHL’s deputy commissioner Bill Daly remains confident the Vancouver Canucks will be able to complete their 56-game schedule. Daly adds the league will not change its COVID-19 protocols in the aftermath of the Canucks’ situation. It is not clear when Vancouver will play its next game. As of Monday, 17 Canucks players were in the league’s COVID-19 protocol with the addition of rookie forward Nils Hoglander.

The New York Jets have traded QB San Darnold to the Carolina Panthers in return for three draft picks; a sixth-rounder later this month and a second-rounder and fourth-rounder in 2022.

More public employees in the Prince George area could be striking soon. As of noon today (Wednesday), CUPE 1699, representing employees of the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George has issued 72-hour strike notice.
