New Prince George-Opoly game released

A Prince George-inspired board game will be available next week.

Prince George-Opoly is based on Monopoly but features streets and landmarks of the Northern Capital.

For example, Exploration Place, Mr.PG and the Prince George Golf and Curling Club can all be purchased by players.

The game was created in collaboration between Outset Media and Walmart, who have created similar games in the past, including the original Prince George-Opoly created in the ’90s.

“These games really help foster a sense of community a little bit more,” Said Jean-Paul Teskey, Senior Vice-President of Outset Media, “it really makes it a personal experience when playing the game.”

Teskey says they really worked to make the game inclusive to local businesses as well, noting that the Frozen Paddle Ice Cream shop is also on the board.

He adds board games have become increasingly popular as people spend more time at home, and community-themed Monopoly games help celebrate small Canadian communities.

“With people stuck at home, they’re looking for games and pastimes that aren’t just sitting in front of a  screen, Prince George-Opoly will do exactly that,” added Teskey.

Prince George-Opoly will be available at Walmart both in-store and online early next week.

Outset Media is hoping to release more BC community-specific boards in the coming years.
