Bob Zimmer tables private members firearms bill

Prince George Peace River MP Bob Zimmer tabled a private members bill in Ottawa today.

The bill(M-589) states discourages the government from adopting a recent United Nations Resolution that asks all firearms be labelled with their country of import.

Zimmer says the current system of unique identification codes works well enough and adding “Canada” to the code won’t accomplish anything.

“What we don’t need is another redundant UN regime on top of that. So I think Canadians can feel safe without having extra red tape added to law abiding firearms owners.”

He suggested that the resolution was a “backdoor” to a long gun registry system that they don’t want and that it adds nothing to public safety.
