Pair of arrests made by Quesnel police following high-speed seizure

Quesnel RCMP took a man and a woman into custody after seizing drugs, cash, and a handgun following a high-speed pursuit.

Just after 5 pm last night (Thursday), North District Traffic Services attempted to stop a northbound Mercedestravelling 145 kilometres per hour on Highway 97 south of Quesnel.

The car did not stop and sped away at a higher rate of speed.

According to police, the vehicle entered Quesnel City limits, which then led to a second police vehicle unsuccessfully stopping the car.

The driver then a construction zone and witnesses reported the vehicle driving dangerously down Dragon Lake Hill.

Police then used two spike belts on the Quesnel River Bridge to deflate the vehicle’s tires.

The driver still attempted to flee colliding with two other cars and was eventually lodged between a dump truck and another truck. The driver then reversed and rammed a police vehicle.

From there, police used a taser and pepper spray to arrest the man while a female passenger was also taken into custody.

Both suspected sustained minor injuries during the arrest.

No residents or police officers were injured.

Police say both suspects are not from the Quesnel area and are facing several drug and firearm charges.
