Shortly after 3:30 a.m. yesterday (Thursday), police received information from staff at University Hospital a man was in the emergency room with traumatic injuries.

However, the victim did not survive and the matter is being treated as a homicide.

“Preliminary information indicates that prior to arrival at the hospital the male was associated to a residence on the 900 block of Carney Street. Police are familiar with this residence as it was the subject of a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrant executed by the Street Crew Unit in March of this year. As such, investigators believe this was a targeted attack and there is currently no risk to the public,” stated  Cst. Jennifer Cooper.

The Serious Crime Unit would like to speak with anyone with a dashcam who was driving in the area of 10th Avenue and Carney Street between 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. yesterday (Thursday).

The BC Coroners Service is also conducting an investigation to determine the facts surrounding this death.

Two weeks ago (April 10th), the RCMP launched a homicide investigation on PG Pulp Mill Road following an unknown disturbance.

The investigation into the file is ongoing.

Now, Prince George’s first homicide occurred on New Year’s Day when a 50-year-old man named Elie Eric Blanchard was found dead at a home on the 2800 block of 15th Avenue.

A second such incident was reported on January 28th when the RCMP found a man in a snowbank on the 8200 block of Domano Boulevard.

The northern capital only recorded one homicide in all of 2020 where an incident outside the Prince George Courthouse resulted in the death of a 26-year-old woman.

A woman was arrested as part of that investigation.

Furthermore, Prince George recorded two homicides during 2019.

As of January 2020, police were still investigating the death of 41-year-old Kristopher Bychyk after they responded to a string of incidents related to each other.

A report of a vehicle fire on Chilako Station Road led to a call of found human remains in the West Lake area, which later identified Bychyk.

In the second homicide, a 30-year-old Prince George man was charged following an altercation at 20th Avenue and Redwood Street leading to the death of  35-year-old Gregory Gareth Wale.

The BC Prosecution Service approved a manslaughter charge against Dallas Phillip Adsit in that incident.
