Nearly 60 businesses across Prince George donate to Spring-Clean Up efforts

The 2021 Spring Clean-Up day is coming up this Sunday (Apr 25th), and there are have been some new incentives added this year to get residents to participate.

Nearly 60 companies across PG have donated $100-250 gift cards, which will be up for grabs from those who go out and collect garbage this weekend.

“If you take an image of the garbage you’ve collected and post it to the Hell Yeah Prince George Facebook page, you could win some gift cards,” explained co-organizer, Dave Mothus.

The Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society (REAPS) initiates the city-wide event every year but this year, Mothus decided to get businesses involved.

“I was driving home and getting annoyed with all the garbage on the side of the road and I heard about this clean-up and decided to piggyback on it,” added Mothus.

57 businesses including the White Goose Bistro, Walk Rite Shoes, and The Canadian Brewhouse have donated gift cards to the cause.

Participants can register for the clean-up on the City website, but it is not mandatory to win a gift card.

All volunteers must follow provincial health protocols and the city will have extra garbage collection bins at various locations around Prince George.

The garbage collection bins won’t be accepting household hazardous waste, electronics, or garden waste.
