Six thousand kilograms of waste collected by volunteers during PG Spring Cleanup

Over 3-thousand people participated in the annual Spring Cleanup event in Prince George.

With the final numbers still trickling in, Terri McClymont with REAPS told MyPGNow.com it was a huge success.

“Even having six thousand kilograms of waste out of the bushes, sidewalks, roadways helps us to beautify Prince George and it also stops the litter from going into the river systems.”

Over 25-hundred garbage bags and 29-hundred gloves were handed out to volunteers during the event who covered 350 kilometres.

“We have to keep track of these numbers. We get our bags from Pitching Canada and the City of Prince George provides the gloves so it allows to know what to estimate for next year.”

The final total is still being counted.

While the Spring Cleanup is the main event for beautifying the northern capital, groups like the Prince George Nature Team are out and about putting litter in its place.
