Love is in the air! Prince George stars in new romantic comedy

Things are heating up in Prince George as production on a new romantic comedy being shot across the city is slated to begin next week.

‘The Way to the Heart’, is the latest film to be shot in a series of works scheduled for PG, with production starting on Monday.

“We are aiming to shoot a handful of other movies in Prince George in the next year, this is the second of hopefully many,” said Norm Coyne, Producer at Barker Street Cinema.

The movie is described as a romantic comedy set amongst a local farmers’ market and car rally throughout the summer season.

Canadian Screen Award-winning director Wendy Ord will be directing the film.

According to Coyne, The Way to the Heart is going to do great things for the local film industry.

“Prince George is being represented as itself, and that gets people who see the film talking as well as producers who see it as a potential shooting location,” added Coyne.

He notes that PG’s film industry is already gaining quite a lot of traction, as it offers unique shooting opportunities.

“We’ve had a lot of calls from producers who are telling us they see a lot of good things we’re doing up here and it’s actually quite challenging now to film in Vancouver because there is so much going on, so people are thirsty for alternatives,” added Coyne.

Coyne says he feels proud whenever he sees Prince George on the big screen, especially when the community is portrayed in such a beautiful way.

“It’s really special and I think you can actually feel that excitement around the city, there’s a lot of buzz about what’s happening now with the film industry,” he explained.

This project follows the production of ‘A Great North Christmas’,  which was filmed entirely in and around Prince George by a local crew earlier this year.
