Hart Pioneer Centre receives large donation for Meals on Wheels program

The Hart Pioneer Centre is the recipient of a $5,000 donation from Four Rivers Co-op.

All funding will be used for groceries for the Meals on Wheels program, which has been serving local seniors for over 8 years.

“The program provides delivery of freshly prepared healthy meals to Hart area residents at very affordable pricing,” explained Lorraine Prouse, President of the Hart Pioneer Centre Association.

The Centre delivers over 100 meals per week but has been closed to the public since the onset of the pandemic in March.

“We know that food insecurity is a major source of stress,” said Bud Pye, President of the Four Rivers Co-op Board of Directors, “Supporting programs such as Meals on Wheels helps ensure that some of that pressure is relieved, allowing individuals to focus on other things.”

Normally, the Hart Pioneer Centre also offers a full schedule of activities such as fitness classes and dances for community members to participate in.

The donation follows the commitment made by Four River’s Co-op in 2020 to support charities, community groups, and non-profits in 9 communities across its trading district.
