CNC uses wood stove heat to generate electricity

Using new technology to produce electricity from the heat of a wood stove.

That’s what College of New Caledonia engineering and electronics instructors and students have done, after a 6-month research project.

Using thermoelectric generators, the research team was able to produce 40 watts of electricity for several hours a day.

Researcher Oro Barton says this type of technology is perfect for cabins and greenhouses.

“If you have a small greenhouse in your backyard and it’s heated by a wood stove, you could make the grow lights extend the day in the fall or spring. Or if you’re in a cabin you could implement the TEG (Thermoelectric Generators) technology in a stove and you could sort of develop all your services in one.”

Barton says they’re now looking someone to work with to develop a product that can provide all services for a cabin with this technology.
