UNBC WSOC pickup second German recruit

It’s pretty safe to say the UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer team will have some international flavour the next time they take the pitch.

For the second time this spring, head coach Neil Sedgwick set his sights on Germany adding midfielder Tabea Ziemke for the upcoming season.

“I am extremely happy to say I will be playing at the highest level of university sport in Canada. I am honoured that Neil showed interest in me joining the program, as it has always been a dream of mine to play at the university level. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity.”

The 18-year-old came in contact with Sedgwick via video throughout the recruiting process.

Ziemke played her club soccer with Borussia Monchengladbach under coach Romeo Schafer.

“I believe, in a way, I might be able to bring a new perspective to the game as an international student. I have a good vision of the pitch, and I like to create spaces for my teammates. I like leading the game from defense to offense.”

Last month, the Timberwolves also added German midfielder Katharina Weltz to the roster.

Ziemke is a graduate of Michael-Ende-Gymnasium school and intends to enroll in Political Science at UNBC.

She will join her new teammates in August for training camp.
