‘Diversity Week’ returning to PG schools

The second annual Diversity Week is coming to Prince George near the end of the month.

Organizer Shawn Peters says from April 27 – 30th, high schools in PG will be hosting activities celebrating differences in race, gender, religion and sexuality.

“Then we set up info booths. Different societies are welcome to contact me and sign up for a spot during the week.” Peters said “We have fashion shows, different multicultural dancers performing during week, it really exposes the kids to all our differences.”

Groups have until April 6th to get involved in diversity week and Peter’s says they’ve launched a ‘I stand’ challenge to go along with the week.

“You challenge someone to say ‘what they stand for’, so you say to someone ‘I stand for this, what do you stand for’. There is a Facebook page set up called ‘I Stand 2015’ where you go challenge people online”

As a part of fundraising efforts for the week, they are selling ‘I stand’ buttons by donation at businesses around PG including Lambda Cabaret and Loved Always. Peters says he is looking for other businesses to display the buttons for donation.
