City of PG lowers flags to half-mast

Following the discovery of the remains of 215 children found at the site of the former residential school in Kamloops, the City of Prince George lowered its flags to half-mast.

Mayor Lyn Hall announced the following today (Monday):

• That City, British Columbia, and Canada flags at all City properties have been lowered.
• That the Lheidli T’enneh flag at City Hall will be lowered to half-mast tomorrow at noon and will stay at half-mast for 215 days.
• That Prince George City Council will have a minute of silence at its public meeting tonight.

“On behalf of Council, City employees, and residents of Prince George, I would like to express my profound sadness about the discovery of the remains of 215 children found at the site of the former residential school in Kamloops. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to join Chief Logan and Regional District Chair Art Kaehn in starting 215 days of remembrance for the children who died at the Kamloops Residential School. Beyond remembrance, we must take Chief Logan’s message to heart and constantly ask ourselves what else we can do to support our children today. In this regard, we all have a role to play and we can all do better.”
