Some Farrell Street residents warned of flood risk as Fraser River rises

Prince George residents living on Farrell Street near Paddlewheel Park are being warned of possible flooding due to rising water levels in the Fraser River.

BC’s River Forecast Centre reports water levels in the Fraser River are about 8.4 metres high currently, and steadily approaching 9.0 metres.

According to the City of PG, some home basements on Farrell Street may experience flooding once the water rises above 9 metres.

No evacuation alerts or orders have been declared for Prince George but the Forecast Centre is reporting water levels could rise to 9.5 metres by the weekend.

The City has activated its Emergency Operations Centre and staff notified Farrell Street residents by mail, advising them to be prepared to evacuate if necessary.

Sand and sandbags are available to Farrell Street residents and are positioned at the North end of the Street.

Farrell Street residents are being strongly advised to have an emergency kit readily available in case of an emergency.

Recently, sections of trails in Cottonwood Island Park and Heritage River Trail were closed off due to rising water levels.
