The Salvation Army is celebrating National Donut Day today (Friday) in Prince George for the first time ever in celebration of their 100th year in the community.

The organization will be handing out free coffee and donuts at two locations across town, a tradition observed by many SA organizations across Canada.

“We are going to be setting up a drive-thru at the Salvation Army Church, and it will operate from 8 am until 2 pm,” said Major Neil Wilkinson.

The organization will also be operating a drive-thru at the same time in the Canadian Tire parking lot.

“The Salvation Army has been observing National Donut Day across North America since 1938 and it’s in honour of the young ladies that served our troops on the front lines back in World War 1,” explained Wilkinson.

He adds this is a wonderful new tradition to be implemented on their 100th birthday in Prince George and will honour the partnerships the organization has within Prince George.

The Rotary Club of Prince George partnered up with the Salvation Army to host this event, and Major Wilkinson is inviting all PG residents to come out and grab a treat.

“It’s just an opportunity for us to say a big thank you to the community of Prince George for all they have done in the past for us and all they continue to do,” he added.
