SPCA gets funding to help with pet food bank

The Prince George Community Foundation has given the BC SPCA’s Community Animal Centre in the city around $5000 to expand its pet food bank outreach.

This comes after there is an increase in demand for the service.

Sarah Jones, the regional manager for BC SPCA spoke with MyPGNow.com.

“We partner with the Salvation Army, the Prince George Friendship Society, and two indigenous communities, and they have expressed that there has been concern because of an increased need; because of job loss, etc, due to covid.”

Jones mentioned 2020 was a tough year.

They provided 2000 kilograms of pet food and 2100 cans of dog and cat food to pets in need.

So far in 2021, the SPCA already handed out 1400kg of pet food and 1000 cans of dog and cat food.

“It’s a difficult time for people, and we just need to try and support that human/animal bond, because our pets do so many great things for us. They don’t even realize how they are so emotionally supportive of us. It’s important to keep these people together who are feeling vulnerable,” added Jones.
