The Calgary Hitmen have eliminated the Kootenay Ice. Connor Rankin notched a first period hat trick to lead the Hitmen to a 6-2 triumph over the Ice in the 7th and deciding game of their opening round series.

Calgary advances to the WHL Eastern Conference semi-finals against the Tigers starting Friday in Medicine Hat. The other East semi has Brandon taking on Regina.

–A pair of game six’s in the WHL Western Conference quarter-finals tonight with Portland at Seattle & Everett at Spokane. Both Portland & Everett lead 3-2.

–The Royals-Rockets WHL Western Conference quarter-final series will open in Kelowna Friday and Saturday (on Shaw TV). Games three and four are scheduled for Victoria Tuesday and Wednesday, April 14th and 15th.

–The WHL distinguished careers for Zach Pochiro and Jari Ericsson ended when the Prince George Cougars lost 5-4 in overtime in Victoria as the Royals took the series 4-1.

Pochiro was second on the Cougars in playoff scoring with four goals and two assists behind Brad Morrison, who tallied two goals and set up five others. Ericsson notched a goal and three assists in the five games.
