City of Prince George bans fireworks and campfires

The City of Prince George is banning the use of fireworks and all open burning, including campfires in Prince George beginning at noon today (Wednesday).

This follows the provincial ban which takes effect today at noon as well and is due to the ongoing fire risk from the extremely hot temperatures.

Propane and natural gas fire pits are allowed, but wood-burning fire pits are not permitted.

The City of Prince George Fire Protection and Emergency Response Bylaw gives the Fire Chief the authority to institute this ban in the interest of public safety.

The ban will remain in place until further notice.
