Government hands out more forest money

The provincial government is hoping to expand into foreign markets with the forest sector.

This comes after the government has announced $6.2 million to support the forest sector expand into global marketplaces.

Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Steve Thomson says this will help them continue to build opportunities in key markets.

“We’ve been very successful in building markets in China, Japan to be one of the key initiatives that have helped position the industry to move forward.”

Thomson says they have emerging opportunities in Korea and continuing opportunities in the US as the housing market restarts.

He says the funding is being made available to nine industry trade associations in BC.
