While it will look a little different than previous years, Downtown Summerfest is coming back to the streets of Prince George.
Downtown Prince George will be distributing the event throughout the four Saturdays in July, each day will have a different theme.
During these days, 3rd avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic between Dominion Street and Quebec Street from 7 am until 3 pm.
According to Downtown PG Executive Director, Colleen Van Mook, the event begins this Saturday kicking off with a patio theme, inviting residents to try out all the new patios that have been popping up across the city.
“Because we can’t have a huge event we thought we’d invite people to come down and enjoy downtown on Saturdays when there are already some great things happening,” explained Van Mook.
With all the downtown restaurants and many other businesses being open on Saturdays, Downtown PG wanted to entice residents to the area with themed days.
The theme of July 17th is ‘Specials Downtown’, which is aimed at drawing residents to local businesses that will be offering some special discounts.
On July 24th, Downtown PG is celebrating the four-legged residents of PG with a dog theme, drawing residents to visit pet-friendly businesses and restaurants, where there could be opportunities to get a pet portrait with their dog.
Van Mook says this month-long event is a great opportunity for not only community members, but also local business owners.
“We’re all looking forward to getting more social and we also want to recognize our downtown businesses who have been really working hard and have shown their resiliency so this is really a great time to support downtown businesses and have some fun,” she added.
She says that participating business owners are excited for the event, as many are happy to welcome back returning customers and meet new customers as well.
Summerfest Saturdays will conclude on July 31st with a bike theme, Downtown PG has teamed up with the RCMP and the Prince George Cycling Club to host a Bike Valet in front of Cycle Logic.
This day is aimed at getting residents to register their bicycles with the 529 Garage program to help fight bike theft in the community.
Additionally, every Saturday the Downtown PG Farmer’s Market will be hosted from 8:30 am until 2 pm.
“We’re looking forward to a time when we can execute Downtown Summerfest the way we used to, the last one was Downtown Summerfest ‘Take to the Streets’, to ‘Downtown Summerfest Take it Home’ and now we have ‘Downtown Summerfest Saturday’s,” added Van Mook.
