BCNE to present 4H Achievement Day and Midway this year

Prince George area residents will be able to celebrate a popular summer event once again.

The BCNE announced on Facebook today (Wednesday) it’s holding a 4 H Achievement Day and Midway this year.

General Manager Sylvia Layzell spoke with MyPGNow.com.

“With restrictions easing, it was exciting to be able to tell 4 H that we could support their Achievement Day down here and to bring the animals out and have some fun. Then, West Coast (Amusements) was able to get a few dates together and they were able to join us.”

“It is a small-scale midway, about 10 to 12 rides. It will be a much smaller fair but it is still something.”

Layzell added the BCNE wanted to get all of its ducks in a row before making this announcement.

“It took quite a while because with West Coast Amusements being shut down for a year and a half they were struggling to get staff and supplies in and licensing. It is not a quick up and running business.”

“It’s something that we could do for the city and provide a little bit of entertainment. Everybody has had a rough go of it and we just wanted everyone to come out and have some fun.”

The Pacific National Exhibition, better known as “the PNE” in Vancouver announced it was coming back in June on a “smaller scale” from August 21st to September 6th.

Layzell was asked if the wheels were in motion to bring a smaller event to PG once the PNE made plans to return.

“It is apples and oranges with us and the PNE because they have an established setup. They’ve got their rides, games and for them it’s about finding some staff and they are opening their gates.”

“With us, it’s a little trickier because so many people do come from out of town to support and we lease our property so timelines and deadlines come and go. It’s a little more complicated.”

The event is scheduled for August 19th to 22nd and gate admission is free.

Layzell mentioned the BCNE Fall Fair is expected to return in full next year.
