The rain is on its way.
According to Environment Canada, showery conditions are expected to begin as early as tomorrow night (Thursday) and should last all the way until Monday.
Meteorologist, Doug Lundquist spoke with MyPGNow.com.
“It’s really good news for sure. We have an upper-low moving our way, which will spread showers into the area as soon as Thursday night and through Friday into Saturday. I expect in the Prince George area in general 10-20 millimetres will be a really significant help.”
When asked if this means an end to the Smoky Skies Bulletin, Lundquist mentioned they’re taking a wait and see approach.
“We’ll have to see how it goes because it will really depend on the wind flow direction even afterwards. There is so much smoke here being produced in southern BC especially around Kamloops and kind of heading northward right now. There may be a chance to take it down for a while but there is going to be smoke all across Western North America from Alaska down to California so we will probably get more (smoke) further into the summer regardless.”
Temperatures will be much more seasonal hovering in the 20-22 degree range.
Wildfire officials have been counting on rain for the past week.
Overall, there are 316 active fires in BC, with 61 of those in the Prince George Fire Centre.
There are seven blazes of note including Black Pine, Klawli Lake, Mount Porter, Tentfire Creek, Camsell Lake, Forres Mountain and Cutoff Creek.
