The future of a popular winter event in Prince George is up in the air.
Over the Line (OTL) began in the 1970s and has been organized and hosted by the All-Weather Fools Athletics Club (AWFAC) for nearly four decades.
The group is looking for a fifteen-acre piece of flat land they can use after Dillman’s Farm was sold in 2019 and a temporary location near the airport recently went up for sale.
Treasurer, Dr. Diane Kjorven spoke with MyPGNow.com.
“If we don’t have a place to play and don’t have a place to go or keep our trailers, we have two forty-foot trailers – if we don’t have any place for that then we could end up calling it quits.”
“The bottom line is that if we don’t have a place to go there will not be an OTL tournament (this year) and who knows we may not be able to find a place the year after that.”
The tournament has been held at various locations including the Nechako Fields, near the gravel pit, and in Salmon Valley.
OTL was cancelled this year due to the pandemic.
AWFAC is a non-profit and profits from OTL are donated to local children’s charities or local individuals who need help.
Since the mid-’90s, AWFAC has donated over $76,000.
“Places like Care and Share, Northern BC Friends of Children, and St. Vincent de Paul all benefit from OTL.”
“Over the years, AWFAC donations have gone towards reimbursing fuel, funding accommodation, and providing grocery support,” Friends of Children general manager, Kelly Sharp said,
