Chamber of Commerce urges residents to support local with new program

The Prince George Chamber of Commerce is launching the Patios Parks and Picnics program, rewarding diners for supporting local food and beverage businesses this summer.

Patios, Parks & Picnics provides residents with downloadable maps detailing areas offering local patios, parks and picnic areas.

According to Prince George Chamber of Commerce CEO Todd Corrigall, this will drive traffic to local businesses as restrictions loosen up.

“We wanted to make sure that as more places opened up and more capacity was allowed that people were still thinking local. Just because the pandemic is starting to wind down doesn’t mean our local businesses don’t need our support still particularly in the hospitality sector,” he explained.

He says the Chamber wanted to provide a single area where diners could find locations with a patio, especially since many popped up across PG during the springtime.

“This helps support that on a local level but also for visitors perspective too it’s an easy format for them to find it,” added Corrigall.

Meanwhile, local businesses can also use this program to advertise, as the graphics are easily downloadable.

“Any business who wants to piggyback on that and run some type of summer promotion or promote what they’re doing, they can just grab that graphic package and move forward with their own marketing program,” he said.

Throughout the summer, the Prince George Chamber of Commerce team will seek out people who are supporting local restaurants and reward them with a $50 gift card provided by Canadian Tire.

A grand prize draw for a picnic basket full of local swag will take place in September, residents can enter by sharing photos of themselves enjoying local patios or picnics to social media, and tagging the PG Chamber of Commerce’s Instagram or Facebook account.
