Environment Canada issues Heat Alert for PG

Another strong ridge of high pressure is expected to bring sweltering temperatures into Prince George over the next few days.

Daytime highs are expected to reach the low to mid 30’s between Friday and Sunday.

“It’s so close to our weather warning criteria for heat warnings and we might end up eventually doing a warning instead of just a special weather statement,” said Doug Lundquist, Meteorologist.

“It’s (the heat) is coming back. It won’t be back with the vengeance like we saw at the end of June but we are going to head back into the ’30s as we are forecasting highs from Friday through to Saturday of 30 to 32 degrees.”

Residents are asked to closely monitor for heat illness including swelling, rash, cramps. fainting, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, and people working or exercising outdoors.

Environment Canada reminds everyone to drink plenty of water and stay in a cool place.
