BC Conservation Office investigating after dead black bear found in PG

The Prince George Conservation Officer Service is asking for the public’s help in identifying a violation.

This is in response to a dead black bear located in the Nechako River at Cottonwood Island Park.

According to Conservation Officers, a vehicle was identified where North Nechako Road becomes the Takla Forest Service Road on Monday night, August 16th.

A dark-coloured Ford Ranger with a lone male driver was identified speeding off from the location where the bear was identified near the river bank.

Conservation officials state the bear was shot.

“Right now, we are in a fact-finding process and we are just trying to find out if this individual was involved with the shooting and leaving of a black bear,” said Eamon McArthur, Acting Sgt. for the Omineca Region.

“We are trying to pinpoint what exactly happened, why was there a black bear dumped. The hunting season is open so we are trying to find out information right now.”

Officers are asking anyone with information to call the RAPP Line 1-877-952-7277.
