World Women’s Hockey Championship (in Calgary)

Canada  7  Germany  0   (quarterfinals)

The semifinals Monday have Canada against Switzerland (4:00 PT) and the USA vs. Finland (Noon). The medal games will be played on Tuesday.

Canada is 3-1 in women’s wheelchair basketball at the Tokyo Paralympics after a 76-37 win today (Sunday) over Australia to conclude the preliminary round. Canada will play the USA in the quarterfinals Monday night at 8:30 (PT). Meanwhile, former UNBC player Kady Dandeneau had a game-high 23 points Saturday in a 59-57 loss to Germany.  Dandeneau had a total of 74 points in her first three games. Earlier, Canada beat Great Britain and Japan.


Toronto Blue Jays  3  Detroit Tigers  2   (10 innings)

The (67-61) Blue Jays visit the Tigers again today (Sunday) before hosting Baltimore on Monday. Toronto is 6 1/2 games behind Boston for the final A.L. wild card spot.

The New York Yankees 13-game win streak ended when they lost to the Oakland A’s 3-2 on Saturday.

Triple-A Baseball:

Jared Young is smacking the cover off of the baseball. Since getting called up to AAA with the Iowa Cubs, the 26-year-old from PG has three homers and 13 RBI’s in  17 games. Young has an impressive .293 batting average and .323 on-base percentage with the Chicago Cubs top farm club. He has been playing at first and third base plus some work in the outfield.
