Local film industry gains attention from Northern FanCon

Northern FanCon took place at the CN Centre over the weekend.

The yearly convention celebrates pop culture by offering vendor spaces and hosting guest speakers.

Norm Coyne, co-organizer of Northern FanCon, says the crowd wasn’t as large as previous years.

“We didn’t see as large of a crowd as we usually do but I mean we were kind of expecting that given the pandemic but it was a mighty crowd and a lot of great friendships were made this weekend we made a lot of people happy,” he said.

It is still unknown exactly how many people participated in the convention.

Coyne says the event generated a lot of attention to the community and could even kickstart a local film project.

“We actually used FanCon as a catalyst for local film productions and I had some unbelievable conversations this weekend with some folks and I will expect we see at least one film production come to Prince George as a result of the convention,” he said.

During the event, a sizzle reel was shot for a series, and currently, work on a web series called “Small Town Long Shots” is underway.

The trailer for “Small Town Long Shots” is scheduled to be released in the next week.

“There’s nothing quite like FanCon, it’s such an empowering and inclusive space,” Coyne added.
