MLB:

American League Wild Card Game

Boston Red Sox  6  New York Yankees  2

The Red Sox advance to the best-of-five AL Divisional Series against the Rays starting Thursday night in Tampa Bay. The other ALDS opener Thursday afternoon at 1:00 has Chicago White Sox at Houston Astros.

The National League Wild Card Game will be played tonight (Wednesday) starting at 5:10 from LA as the Dodgers host the St. Louis Cardinals.

CFL:

Week 10 of the CFL season starts tonight (Wednesday 4:30 PT) with the Ottawa Redblacks at Toronto Argonauts.

The BC  Lions don’t play again until Saturday, October 16th when they host Calgary.

Standings:

West: Winnipeg 7-1, Saskatchewan 5-3, B.C. 4-4, Calgary 3-5, and Edmonton 2-5
East:  Toronto 4-3, Hamilton 4-4, Montreal 3-4, and Ottawa 2-5.

NFL:

Week 5 of the NFL season begins with an NFC West match-up on Thursday: LA Rams at Seattle Seahawks.

The Arizona Cardinals lead the division at 4-0 followed by the Rams at 3-1 and the Seahawks and San Francisco 49’ers at 2-2.

Arizona is the league’s only unbeaten team while two teams remain winless: Both Jacksonville and Detroit are 0-4.

NHL:

Brett Connolly of Prince George has been placed on waivers by the Chicago Blackhawks.

If unclaimed, it is expected the 29-year-old forward will head to the AHL’s Rockford Ice Hogs.

Connolly has two years remaining on his contract that carries a $3.5 million cap hit.

(Pre-season)

Seattle Kraken  4   Vancouver Canucks  0

The Canucks have two exhibition games left, a home-and-home against the Oilers: Thursday in Edmonton and Saturday in Vancouver. Both start at 6 PM PT.

The Canucks begin their regular season with six straight games on the road beginning Wednesday, October 13th in Edmonton.

WHL (PG Cougars)

The (0-1) Prince George Cougars visit the Vancouver Giants Friday and the Kamloops Blazers on Saturday.

The next home games for the Cougars will be against the Victoria Royals on October 16th at 7 PM and October 17th at 2 PM.

BCHL (PG Spruce Kings)

The Prince George Spruce Kings play a couple of road games this week to open their regular season.

The Spruce Kings visit the Merritt Centennials on Friday and the West Kelowna Warriors on Saturday.

Prince George will be home on October 15th and 16th against Merritt.

BC Elite Hockey League: (Cariboo Cougars & Northern Capitals)

(U18AAA )

The (2-2) Cariboo Cougars visit the South Island Royals in Victoria Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday morning at 7:00.

(FEMALE U18 AAA) 

The (4-1-0-1) Northern Capitals host the (4-0) Fraser Valley Rush Saturday night at 6:00 and Sunday morning at 9:45 at Kin 2.

The Saturday game will be “Pink in the Rink” night with the 50/50 to start at $500 and the proceeds will all be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society!

Canada West Soccer: (UNBC Timberwolves)

The UNBC Timberwolves are off this week in Canada West Soccer. The Timberwolves have just four games remaining in each division. The UNBC soccer teams visit Fraser Valley on October 15th and 17th before hosting Thompson Rivers on October 23rd and 24th (at Masich Place starting at noon for the women and 2:15 for the men).

The UNBC men have one win, four losses, and three ties after eight games while the UNBC women have one win, six losses, and one tie.
