PG fuel prices push as high as 157.9

Gas prices in Prince George are skyrocketing once again.

While some stations saw a six-cent increase to 144.9 cents per litre, places like Superstore are as high as 157.9.

Dan McTeague with Canadians for Affordable Energy told MyPGNow.com this could be the “new normal” for a while.

“We could very well trip over the dollar-sixty range perhaps by as early as Remembrance Day. It’s a safe bet you are going to see some stations pushing to a dollar-fifty-eight, dollar-fifty-seven a litre.”

“It really reflects the shortage of supply globally and the realities around other forms of energy whether it be gasoline, natural gas or heating oil.”

The price hike could set up for a rather costly winter.

“We could see prices for just about everything goes through the roof and in an unprecedented way. We may be breaking through all-time price increases so the winter of our discontent beckons so hang on tight to your wallets.”

“We may produce our own oil, we may refine our own oil including here in our backyard but the reality is that we are price takers. Whatever the price is globally is the price we have to pay and this is not lost on all of us to look at these things and say Canada just isn’t selling enough oil as it did in the past,” lamented McTeague.

McTeague also sounded off on those who believe the price hike has everything to do with the long weekend.

“By the way, this has nothing to do with Thanksgiving. The price is made in the United States and there is no Thanksgiving until November and it’s not a long weekend so that theory gets trashed pretty quickly.”

Costco remains the cheapest place to fuel up at 134.9.
