Giants win their home opener at the Cougars expense

The Vancouver Giants scored three straight goals in just over five minutes in the later stages of the first period and they went on to a 6-4 Friday night victory over the Prince George Cougars.

It was the Giants home opener before 2,638 fans in Langley (maximum crowd allowed due to public health orders).

Kyren Gronick notched a goal and an assist for the Cougars, who trailed 3-1 after one and 4-3 after two.
Hudson Thornton, Carter MacAdams and Jonny Hooker (in the final minute of the game) also tallied for Prince George.
Adam Hall scored twice for Vancouver while Justin Sourdif, Ty Thorpe, Ethan Semeniuk and Justin Lies added one goal each.
Taylor Gauthier took the loss in net blocking 29 of 35 shots.
Ty Young, Majid Kaddoura, Aiden Reeves, Mike Svenson, and Blake Eastman (injury) were scratched for Prince George.

“It was very similar to last Saturday’s come from a positive standpoint and for addressing areas of improvement,” said Cougars Associate Coach Josh Dixon. “The positives are we score first, score four goals again, get 36 shots on net, and show we can claw back in games. On the flipside, we need to eliminate those stretches in games where we get outworked, give up goals in bunches and dig ourselves a hole to try and get out of.”

The (0-2) Cougars visit the (1-0) Blazers in the Kamloops home opener tonight at 7:00.
The game can be heard on 94.3 The GOAT.
