NHL: 

The Tampa Bay Lightning have given head coach Jon Cooper of Prince George a three-year contract extension through the 2024-25 season.

The two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Lightning will begin the NHL regular season tonight (Tuesday) when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins (4:30 PT).

The only other league game this evening has Seattle at Vegas (7:00).

The Vancouver Canucks, who finished 2-5 in the pre-season, begin their regular season with six straight games on the road beginning Wednesday night at 7:00 (PT) in Edmonton.

Canucks forward Brock Boeser will begin the season on injured reserve.

WHL (PG Cougars)

The Prince George Cougars have started their season 0-3 after losing on the road 6-4 to the Vancouver Giants Friday and 8-3 to Kamloops Blazers Saturday.

The Cougars have scored 11 goals while surrendering a Western Conference high 19.

Prince George will play its next six games against Victoria.

The Cougars host the (1-2) Royals Saturday night at 7:00 and Sunday afternoon at 2:00.

(PG Spruce Kings)

The Prince George Spruce Kings split their first two games on the road.

The Spruce Kings crushed Merritt 8-1 Friday before losing 5-3 to West Kelowna on Saturday.

The (1-1) Spruce Kings entertain the (0-2) Merritt Centennials on Friday and Saturday in their first home games of the season.

In other weekend action, the U17 Cougars skated to a 7-1 Saturday win and a 6-5 overtime victory on Sunday in PG against the South Island Royals. The Cougars improved to 2-2 and will visit the Vancouver Northwest Hawks next weekend.

The Ravens erased a 25-9 fourth-quarter deficit to improve to 4-1. The Colts dropped to 1-4.

After five weeks, Arizona is the only unbeaten team at 5-0 while Jacksonville and Detroit are the only winless teams at 0-5.

Jon Gruden has resigned as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.

His decision came after offensive emails he sent before being hired in 2018 were revealed.

The UNBC Timberwolves have just four games left (men and women) in Canada West Soccer.

The UNBC soccer teams visit Fraser Valley on Friday and Sunday before hosting Thompson Rivers on October 23rd and 24th (at Masich Place starting at noon for the women and 2:15 for the men).

The UNBC men have one win, four losses, and three ties after eight games while the UNBC women have one win, six losses, and one tie.
