Highway 97 North reopened following motor vehicle incident involving pedestrian in the Hart

Updated Story 11:06 AM

According to the PG RCMP. Highway 97 North near Northwood Pulp Mill Road has reopened to traffic.

Original Story 8:27 AM

Prince George Emergency crews are on the scene after a pedestrian was struck on the Hart Highway by the Chevron Gas station.

Police say it happened just before 7 o’clock this morning (Thursday).

The pedestrian has been taken to hospital with unknown injuries and the driver is cooperating with the RCMP.

A considerable portion of the Hart Highway has been blocked off.

“Just remember that it is really dark out and some of our pedestrians are not wearing reflective gear so we just need to keep that in mind on areas where there are narrow shoulders. Slow down a bit and keep your eyes open,” stated Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer.

According to RCMP, traffic will be slowed down until at least noon and they are recommending drivers take Foothills Boulevard as an alternate route.

This is the second motor vehicle incident in three days involving a pedestrian in Prince George.

On Tuesday, the RCMP responded to the area of 1st Avenue and Quebec Street where a pedestrian was struck and killed.

Police are now wanting to speak with the owner of a white pickup truck who was in the area when the incident occurred.
