Hart Highway pedestrian collision claims a life

For the second time in three days, a motor vehicle incident involving a pedestrian has turned fatal.

The incident occurred just before 7 o’clock this morning (Thursday) along the Hart Highway near the Chevron Gas station.

The victim later succumbed to his injuries.

PG RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Cooper spoke with MyPGNow.com.

“We do have an ongoing investigation, the driver of the vehicle is being fully cooperative with our police investigation.”

Cooper reminds pedestrians to be as visible as possible with the days getting shorter.

“We definitely want to encourage anybody who is going to be walking along a roadway whether it’s on a sidewalk or not, to make sure they are wearing something reflective whether it’s the striping on your jacket, grab a hi-resolution vest, or carry a vest if you plan on being a pedestrian.”

The highway was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

On Tuesday, the RCMP responded to the area of 1st Avenue and Quebec Street where a pedestrian was struck and killed.

Police are now wanting to speak with the owner of a white pickup truck who was in the area when the incident occurred.
