Pandemic restrictions and the more recent supply chain issues have dealt some blows to The Exploration Place, but they’re now working with Pine Centre Mall to create a pop up location.
The mall donated some space to the not for profit museum to create a scaled down museum that opens today (Saturday) and runs until mid April.
“The whole world is tired and frustrated with the multiple stresses we are all enduring at the moment,” said Exploration Place CEO Tracy Calogheros.
“Being able to welcome our community into a pop-up space is just so exciting for all of us.”
Exhibits, school age kid programming, a gift shop, and the KEVA program are all part of the new location.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with The Exploration Place to help bring their valuable and exciting family experiences to our community once again. Having them at Pine Centre will provide a great service for the families of Prince George in a convenient location for all to enjoy,” said Pine Centre Marketing Manager Jessica Brown.
The national travelling exhibit, Trailblazing: Women in Canada since 1867, was slated for The Exploration Place and their anticipated new year reopening, but the recent floods have the exhibit stuck in Vancouver.
Calgheros said they switched gears and now have a Christmas exhibit featuring a replica of Champion the Northern Hardware horse.
““Pandemic delays have bled into climate change crises, and it’s impacting everyone, including us,” said Calogheros.
“The Trailblazing Women exhibit will be worth the wait, however, and in the meantime, you can’t go wrong with a Christmas picture on Champ!”
The museum will run the same hours as the mall, and pre-registration will be required to access any of their programming.
